DNA

A piece of you came enclosed in your letter.
Not your heart but still a part of you,
concealed as usual,
this time between the envelope and stamp—
trapped forever as the rest of you departs,
taking all of you except
for that remainder—one last kiss of tongue
before you sealed the stamp upon the envelope.

    Wonderful how you made DNA romantic and sad, Judy, especially in the lines:

      Oops..I went back to look at the poem as I always do as I tend to forget my poems as soon as I write them…and I discovered that I hadn’t saved the last version of my poem.. So thanks for your part in my discovering that.. I had two “forevers” in the poem and have since erased one…Judy
