Look what I just received in the mail!!

I didn’t know they awarded gold medals to anyone except Olympians…but guess you can get them for nimble fingers and a nimble mind as well! I was a finalist in the memoir category. This one isn’t real gold, by the way! It set me to wondering if the Olympic medals are real gold. This is what I learned: According to the International Olympic Committee, Olympic gold medals are required to be at least 92.5 percent silver, and are plated with about 6 grams of pure gold.

About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

Thanks, Sadje. It was a surprise. I had no idea they actually gave medals for this. The postman arrived just as I got home and had pulled into my driveway. I could not for the life of me think who would be sending me anything..It was heavy to boot. Do you think they expect us to wear them around our necks? Ha!!!

    First, CONGRATULATIONS!! You deserve it.

Second, I think they WERE gold originally, but somewhere along the line, it got too expensive because the Olympic Committee apparently don’t have the funds. Still, they are really nice looking medals and I’m told very heavy, too.

But yours is better because YOU won it.

I am reading it now. The first pages are spectacular and make you want to keep reading. I am completing a course in Communication and Aging, so it is slower reading than I usually do. But when I complete my final paper, it will be your book and me.

A worthy subject. I hope the possible (shudder) new administration has more interest in furthering the needs of the elderly than they do the needs of women or children or other parts of society in need.

You look great in gold! Congratulations. Your book’s a winner with me, too. That you can remember all those details is amazing.

    So are you.

Judy, these pieces were written over a period of 50 years or more so my memory was fresher then..ha. Seems impossible that that is true. Kinda scary to realize this. Makes me glad I never throw anything on paper away though, as many of these were written pre-computer.

Ah, thanks, Derrick. I need to catch up on my reading. It has been a whirlwind around here lately. The only reason I get posts done is because Forgottenman reminds me. Nothing forgotten about his mind!!!

Yes. On Amazon. All of my books are there. Another coming out soon—50 years of love poems. I’m getting rather one-minded in my “old” age. My books are my kids. Gotta get them out into the world.
