Sticking to the Straight and Narrow

Sticking to the Straight and Narrow

(Mother Superior’s Rejoinder)

Please do not lollygag. There’s no time more.
We’re closing the shutters and locking the door.
Wipe those dreams from your brain, for it is our fear
that your thoughts will diverge from the prim and austere.
Make sure your spirit is pearl white and pure
with no sinful streaks to compete with demure.
Deadly sins number from one up to seven,
and striated souls will not make it to heaven.

This is one of my favorite photos, taken at the Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico City. I love the one nun on the left, turned around to look back, plus the one with her arms crossed in back. I should perhaps crop it a bit on the right. Will next time I use it.

No don’t crop it, those arms tell a story too and so does your poem. In your travels did you get to tour Pennsylvania~? Especially the North East. There is something about those people that you have to like, they do live their strong beliefs, not imposing them on others. Though like minded “Hutterites” up in Canada would try to encourage me to stay in their Communes in my bachelor days. But this was because they needed new blood lines in the commune, being too tight a community. Good food, wine and friendship though, and I could see very little hate.

Being lonely and sad today I am thinking about going to “Church”, but it is not for the same reason many go. I do have friends among the Unitarian and even Unity churches who teach liberalism not hate.

I wouldn’t cut off any arms.. just decrease the size of the empty space to the right to be the same as the left..that is a big thing with me…centering.

i love them. Maybe a few of them would have a free and lovely poem to write in answer to our projections. I would hope so for her sake.
