Cleaning House

A few weeks ago I cleared 100 folders off my desktop, leaviing only 40.  The ones I cleared off, I placed in one desktop folder entitled COLLECT (for Collections). It now holds 194 files, as I combined some. When I change the size of photos from the size my camera records them at down to a size to put on my blog, I have to drag them from the PHOTOS app. to my desktop. Then, if I use them, I file them in a folder according to topic or if they don’t fit into any folders in my COLLECT folder, I file them in my BLOG folder.  If I don’t use them on my blog, I leave them on the desktop along with other interesting photos I’ve taken lately (or taken from my media file) that I hoped to use but didn’t.  Today I decided to clean up my desktop again, and above are the photos formerly without a home that I want to share before putting them away.

About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

That’s a lot of work! ANTS: about a week before my surgery in October, my kitchen and one bathroom were overrun by trails of ants. I had not seen ants since shortly after I moved in 32 years ago, so where did they come from? It turned out that the landscapers had felled a tree behind the house across the street — they hauled the pieces out to the street and ran them through a chipping machine that blew the chips into a truck — I believe that there must have been an ant nest in the tree that got blown all over the neighborhood!

Did you neighbors say they had ant infestations as well? Our leafcutter ants seem to go back underground during certain months but then come out with a vengeance. I’ve never figured out what causes the long columns of tiny ants to appear…mainly leaving even the tiniest scrap of food out. They’ve reappeared lately both staging sorties into the cat bowls and my kitchen. The dogs never leave a scrap of food–even throughtly licking out their bowls–so never any ants there.

We are plagued by ants every year and this year was the worst ever as they got everywhere, in the kitchen cupboards, bathroom and the bedroom, though there is never any food in there. I admit I lost it……. twice, and we fumigated the house……twice. We had the carpets up and sprinkled Diatomaceous earth underneath and round the front doorway which seemed to eventually do the trick, but it took a couple of weeks to get rid of them completely.
