I can’t find the name of this flower photographed in my friend’s yard. Any suggestions from Google don’t have the exact shape of petals or leaves. Do you know what it is?

There were many of these in the SF Bay area. I always had one in my garden. Commonly called Princess flowers, they are Tibouchina Urvilleana, also called Pieroma Urvilleana. They are bushes (or small trees) that get to be about 6 to 8 ft tall. I had one here for several years but they don’t like the hot weather. Maybe they would grow here in full shade. They are natives of Brazil.

It’s Tibouchina urvilleana (pronounced: tib-o-KEE-na er-vil-LEE-a-na), also known as Princess Flower of Glory Bush among other names. It’s a native of Mexico I believe!

I heard them called Brazilian Purple Princess flowers; also Tibouchina, not as much fun.
