Mystery Flower for FOTD Dec 9, 2024

I can’t find the name of this flower photographed in my friend’s yard. Any suggestions from Google don’t have the exact shape of petals or leaves. Do you know what it is?

About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

There were many of these in the SF Bay area. I always had one in my garden. Commonly called Princess flowers, they are Tibouchina Urvilleana, also called Pieroma Urvilleana. They are bushes (or small trees) that get to be about 6 to 8 ft tall. I had one here for several years but they don’t like the hot weather. Maybe they would grow here in full shade. They are natives of Brazil.
