“To Be Perfectly Honest––”
(What I Really Wanted to Say)
3 Quadrilles
*As much as I enjoyed your first hundred family photos,
could we perhaps switch to conversation of a less familial theme?
*No I’m not ill. I’ve spent two years starving and a fortune
on appetite suppressants. Couldn’t you just tell me I look fabulous?
*I believe my husband has seen enough of your cleavage
for one evening. Could you cage them?
*Your poem’s triteness is equaled only by its misspellings.
*I am curious. Have you ever wondered why only beautiful women
want you to ask them to dance?
*Be honest now. Would you ever have thought
to eat raw fish if it weren’t all the rage?
*Sorry, but Walmart art doesn’t count as a collection.
*When people back away from you, it’s likely
they don’t want you to advance on them again.
The dVerse Poets link today is “Honest.” Instead of one quadrille, I did three. Don’t complain. You’re lucky I didn’t do five!
Haha! Love this candidly honest poem

I don’t care if you broke the rules; I enjoyed all these. (But I too am curious about why only beautiful women wanted him to ask them to dance. I seem to be missing the point with this one.)

It is irony. Obviously, he has only asked beautiful women to dance so the narrator is asking what makes him think only beautiful women want to dance…

Oh, right, yes. I was a bit slow on that one!

No, I think it was confusing. I don’t blame you.

Oops.. I said I wrote three quatrains…I meant quadrilles. Each stanza is 44 words. So in fact I just did the assignment X 3.

In effect, you’ve written three quadrilles, Judy! I love their plain-speaking honesty, which made me think of similar situations, when my response wasn’t quick enough and I only thought of something to say hours or even days later. I need a script writer.

Of course I came up with these from the safety of my keyboard. I never think of them at the time, either..Well, perhaps I think them but I don’t say them.

I had made a list of them before, then had to alter and recombine and cut to make them into quadrilles. Glad you enjoyed them.

Second quip or second Quadrille, Helen?

I always love discounts and sales and when you give three Qs in place of one, who am I to complain? Then you top it with some priceless photos, what more could one ask. Thanks, Judy.

Your poems leave me wondering again about how much we filter what we say for good or for bad. I enjoyed reading this, and the family photos were a perfect accompaniment.

Ha! Maybe it’s just a breath mint that’s needed for the close in that last one ;-P

Even just thinking or composing these retorts without saying them is therapeutic.
