I could touch the top of these trees when I moved into my house 24 years ago.

OMG, they have grown! Great shot! Thank you for sharing with Sunday Trees.

They estimate they are about 100 feet tall! You can see how they tower over all the other trees…including lesser palm trees.

Are they that tall? I love these but they sort of scare me, too.

It’s hard tell. Ours are the Cordyline Australises- now about 4 metres – not much more than 1 when we came 11 years ago.

When we moved here 31 years ago, our predecessors had planted a few trees which were still only about 3-4 feet tall. Within a year, we had moved them from the middle of the garden to the far end. Since then, the cherry tree had to be cut down because it got too big – blocking the light, and would have caused too much damage if it had fallen. The two birch trees are now thriving without the competition from the cherry. The field maple is now literally the cornerstone of the garden, taller than the birches at around 50ft and home to lots of birds and invertebrates. Fortunately it shouldn’t get any bigger. 100ft would be just too big!

Shocking to have that physical reminder of how long I have been here!!! Oh that I had grown up instead of shrinking vertically and growing sideways at the same time!

I know the feeling well. I think I have succeeded in stemming the sideways growth, but I have to be vigilant 🙂
