“Fishless Chips” for SOCS, July 18, 2025

I received the below new lunch menu from a local restaurant :

A NEW
LUNCH MENU is being offered from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm

  • Fish & Chips with Coleslaw
    Burritos ( Shrimp or Fish)
    Chimichangas (Shrimp or Fish)
    Tacos Shrimp or Fish
    Large Salad with  Shrimp

This was my mental reply to their message:

          Fishless Chips

Never have I had a wish
for any kind of seafood dish––
fillet of flounder or tuna knish.
The only menu I find delish
is piscine-free, served with a flourish.
So if this bod you wish to nourish,
just french fry spuds and skip the fish!

The prompt for SOCS is “chip.”

My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

I forget the time difference…we get the prompt today but actually do the writing tomorrow. Anyway, your answer to the prompt is delightful! I do like fish, but not everyone does! I like French frueš, but these days I like sweet potato fries. Probably not good for me, but they sure taste better in my opinion.

Catfish fillets dusted in corn flour and pan-fried, then drizzled with lemon and maybe some malt vinegar, cornbread with lots of butter and a smattering of mustard greens on the side. Add a cold beer to accompany it. Pure Summer Heaven!!

A fun response. In my family two of us love fish, one more loves only salmon, and one visibly reacts if there’s any sort of seafood smell in the kitchen. My daughter is definitely in your camp!

It is so weird, Dolly, but almost nothing tastes good to me anymore. I went out to dinner tonight and ordered a dish that was a combination of 4 things and none tasted good. So we went for ice cream and that didn’t taste good either! So strange…
