I must take umbrage over those words
that you have shared with all the world.
My deepest secrets, revealed, I thought, to you alone––
lie here, their magic lost,
trapped in tabloids––worthless
except as wraps for fish and chips.
A Cherita, for dVerse Poets Thanks to Matthew Reyes for use of his image on unsplash and to Forgottenman for his additional prompt “umbrage.”
See other poems for this prompt HERE.

From my perspective, the chimera of modern “success” is as hollow behind as were folk depictions of some of the faeries…

I am glad that I cannot imagine this type of betrayal.

Fictional, happily.

I asked my friend for a prompt and he gave me “umbrage.” Definitely not an easy prompt!!

Glad it is fictional, Judy. For a worm to betray in such a way, it is hoped anything the worm says will be taken with a grain of salt by the listener.

Probably every famous person has had at least one person betray them this way..Perhaps sometimes unintentionally…because they tell someone they trust, too.

Yes, while the tabloids have a lot to answer for, so do those who spill to them indiscriminately. (So many of us have come to think money is sufficient reason for anything.)

Me, too. I think I put that message in the wrong place, though.

Such a betrayal indeed! It’s not exactly the same thing, but it makes me think of the musical “Hamilton,” when Eliza suffers because Alexander’s affair in the tabloids of the time.
FYI, cherita are untitled.

I listened to the album for years before I saw it.

Tabloids, in print, in video, no matter where are an abomination! Great cherita, Judy! Thanks for leaving me a comment.

Judy, that “wraps for fish and chips” ending feels so sharp and cheeky—I can’t help but grin at it.

Sadly true for many, and yes, better left as wrapping 🙂
