The other day I decided to avoid the main road and take neighborhood streets most of the way home. This is what I saw.

I took a photo of this door as well as the outer gate/door of the fraccionamiento it is in once before but must admit that I lost it in the winding corridors of my photos file on my Mac, so when I was passing today, I took another. Both house and door had been painted since I first photographed them, and I must say I love the new colors, so I can forgive myself for my poor photo organization! I took a dozen different photos of doors as I drove home the back way from town today so I hope to show you more when I have the time to organize them. That is if I don’t lose them first!!! May many doors open to you in the week to come!

This was a door in my friend Audrey’s house that was bare wood––pretty worm-eaten. I applied 4 or 5 layers of paint to achieve this aged effect. In the background is a party in full swing that I’ll post pictures of at some later date.

My friend Rhonda seems dressed just right to pose in front of this colorful doorway to the courtyard of a house in Ajijic, Mexico. I live about 5 km. from there.

Beach Bamboo Barrier
The bamboo and wood security screen/door on my beachside entrance for the house I’m staying in for two months at the beach finally was reinstalled after being damaged and removed by Hurricane Patricia. The barriers are usually open and flat agains the wall, but when closed, they give me a bit of privacy as my porch is right on the beach. They also add extra security at night so I can keep my sliders open and catch some beach breezes. I love the view of Pierre and Fred as they trade a few riffs on my porch.

It suddenly occurred to me that I’ve been only taking photos of closed doors, but open doors and what they lead to is often more interesting than the door itself.
This statement by okcforgottenman written as a comment to this photograph is so true and so related to this photo that I must reproduce it here:
“I marvel at how Mexican businesses (and some homeowners) build doorways so differently from what I know in the U.S., where our doors are rigidly defined, narrow, and usually closed (even if they automatically open). There in Mexico, the doorways to the shops are usually wide enough to drive a car through, and they stay open, inviting, during business hours. They blur the distinction between being in the shop and being just outside. Viva Mexico!”
And, in case you are wondering what lies obscured by shadows in this photograph, here are two more views:

La Playa–Thursday Doors
This is the street entrance of a beach palapa restaurant a few doors down from the house I rent in La Manzanilla each year.
La Manzanilla Doors
For such a small town, La Manzanilla has a disproportionate number of little grocery stores. Dalia’s and Lidia’s are two of the best stocked and certainly the most colorful. Watch for other doors from La Manz on upcoming weeks.
