Vegetable and Mineral: FOTD June 19, 2022

This sculpture is made from stone slabs a sculptor friend purchased to carve. You can see the holes drilled to split the stone, but I loved the individual pieces assembled as they are. They now form this “bench” that holds a planter near my hot tub and pool. It contains succulents, lobelia, gardenias and I believe gazanias that perhaps have been crowded out since planting a few years ago. The bougainvillea is a visitor from the huge bush behind it. There’s some Virginia Creeper reaching its fingers into the pot as well as a lopsided solar light.

Sad Story: FOTD June 17, 2021

Yesterday I took this photo of the beautiful mushrooms growing out of its base of the huge Royal Poinciana tree in my front yard. Included in my gallery are some of the blooms of the tree that I published the other day. As beautiful as they are,  the mushrooms are growing there because the roots are decaying and unfortunately I have to cut it down, along with the huge cactus in my backyard. More about this later. Nature gives and takes away.

Lantana: FOTD June 7, 2022

This little lantana has been hiding for awhile but just popped out in the planter that sits on the stone sculpture next to my pool.

Five Minute Stroll: for Cee’s Closeup on Nature

Another hot one today, so five minutes was about all I could take outside in the front garden, but it seemed to be enough. Thanks for getting me out, Cee. Now I have to go into town–a real ordeal in this heat.
