The Prompt: What favorite cancelled TV Show would you like to see them create a sequel to?
Firefly II
Although there has already been a movie sequel, I’d like to see at least one more season of the TV series “Firefly” and have all the characters come back as the characters they now play in newer series. Captain Mal Reynolds would be replaced by “Castle.” Inara would return to her former place as paid companion fresh from her divorce from her notorious terrorist husband in “Homeland,” and Saffron, having resigned from her high-profile job on “Mad Men,” would return to continue to make trouble for Mal Reynolds (er, Castle.) Zoe would return as the high-profile lawyer she is as Jessica in “Suits” and perhaps bring an anti-trust “suit” against the Alliance.
Judy, i’ve never seen ‘Firefly’ (and most likely never will) so i can’t comment on it in any meaningful way but what i do like here is your enthusiasm, it’s always good to witness another’s passion.
Take good care

Hi John. “Firefly” has a huge following and I’m sure it is available in DVD’s. I’ve never liked Sci Fi/Fantasy but I loved this show! Worth trying to find. Wish they’d put it on Netflix! Check online. Bet you could find it. There was a movie made but it was not up to par with the series, which, unfortunately, FOX TV aired out of sequence, thinking viewers would want a lot of action from the first. Some people know the true order and just watch it in a different order than what it was aired in. Crazy that it was cancelled abruptly after one season. Since then its fans have grown and grown. A friend of mine (OKCforgottenman, who has a WordPress blog) who watches it once a year sent me the series. Judy

I knew you were cool, Laura. Er, shiny. Do you watch Dr. Who, too?

I haven’t seen Dr Who in years! Since he had that never-ending scarf (though, for all I know, he has that in every version). I should definitely check it out. Did you know that there is a comic book with the backstory of the Shepherd? I haven’t read it though because a) I kinda dig the mystery and b) the Buffy one that I read was really disappointing (I’m just not a comic book person, I guess).

Many days in jr. high, I would walk downtown and stop at Mowell’s Drug to buy a cherry Coke, a package of sunflower seeds and a stack of comic books. My favorites at this age were love comics, but my mom had asked Jack Mowell not to sell them to me, fearing a bad reaction with adolescent hormones, I guess. But Jack was cool and I was his best customer, so I quickly discovered that if I bought at least one other comic, he would just ask me how many I had, glance at the top one and I was home free. That’s how I came to have one Archie or Nancy or Richie Rich or Superman or Little Lulu or Superman or Mighty Mouse to every 6 or 7 love comics in my stash! At ten cents each, I had piles and piles. Wish I had them now.

I envision the crew zipping around the ‘verse looking for Alliance wrongdoing. Mal/Castle would investigate, and Zoe/Jessica would defend wrongly accused. (He’d bring his bride, Detective Beckett along just to create some terrific dynamic tension with Inara.) Saffron/Joan would run con games to help Mal/Castle investigate & solve the case. The Shepherd would dust off his detective skills from Barney Miller to help Mal/Castle in the investigation. Like Laura says, Shiny!

Shoot! I knew I’d forgotten someone! Shepherd!!! My favorite.

..of course Anara could also be replaced with Anna from V.
I imagine adding a carnivorous lizard-like alien to the mix would add for some interesting plots, throw into that Summer Glau’s Terminator and now things are just getting weird.

Are you a fan, Jim? Never ever thought I would be a fan of Sci/Fi, but I loved this one. Quality of the cast may be evidenced by how many got a starring or lead role in a series after Fox was stupid enough to cancel Firefly. Ah, rave on, Judy. Thanks for reading and responding…Hope you come back. Judy

Oh I’ve been a big fan of Joss Whedon. Loved everything he’s written, Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, Firefly, Avengers Assembled, Agents of Shield etc. was always a Sci-fi fan but this sealed the deal.

oh, just “word”.
Although the originals are getting a tad long in the tooth. Dunno if Castle still has the ooomph to swagger as he did back then, in those oh so tight pants.

Yes…But I (blush) couldn’t remember his name. He’s been on something else, too, but I didn’t even recognize him away from his “villainish” role. I also absolutely loved the female mechanic. Was it Zoey? Gotta Google this or just rely on your memory.

Kaylee. Zoe was the wife of Wash (the pilot). Kaylee was so great. Just as sweet as a person can possibly get. But also a woman that can hold her own. I like her a lot.

Zoe has been in a show as well, as has Wash. I need to talk to my friend who was an even bigger fan. He rewatches Firefly every year! He will remember what new shows they’ve all been in. Jayne was such a despicable villain, wasn’t he?

Well, he was more like a Quentin Tarantino type. He was a crazy man who happened to have lots of artillery. He was so over-the-top he was almost the comedic part of the cast.

Yes. Exactly. I actually know someone a bit like him.

Garry and I just watched the entire — way too short !! — series and then Serenity, which I bought on DVD so we can keep watching it, even when Netflix stops making it available.
Did you catch the Castle episode with Fillion starts talking Chinese? Beckett looks at him and asks “Where did that come from?” and he says “Oh, from a television show I used to be on … “

I was not too fond of the movie, “Serenity,” but loved the series which my friend recorded in its entirety for me so I could watch as many segments in a row as I wished, with no commercials. Yay. It’s been some years ago so perhaps I’ll watch it again one of these days.

They’ve got the series on Netflix and Amazon Prime right now. The series needed at least two more seasons.

I’m a Sci-Fi fan and I love the strong characters in the movie and & series. I rate it behind Star Trek the Next Generation, Voyager, Deep Space-9 and Star Gate SG1 .
