San Juan Cosala
Bali
Split Identity
If I had to split my life between two places, it would be my home in the Raquet Club of San Juan Cosala, Jalisco, Mexico and Ubud, Bali. These are two places enough out of the mainstream to give relief from the “sameness” of towns in the states now. Both are the homes of many artists, artisans and musicians as well as the home of gentle people who value the arts.
The only drawback to Bali would be the intense heat and humidity, but perhaps I could acclimate myself. At this stage of life, however, I am content to just alternate my time between San Juan and La Manzanilla, Mexico. I’ve already rented a house in La Manz for mid-January through mid-March in 2016, but I’ve been thinking lately that I might try another beach town in 2017. Any suggestions of other good beach towns in Mexico? Or elsewhere in the world?
The Prompt: A Tale of Two Cities––If you could split your time between any two cities in the world, what two cities would those be? https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/a-tale-of-two-cities/
Great post. You might explore Baja. I have a friend living at the southern tip. He wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I have spent time in La Ribera, just up from Cabo. I have two very dear sets of friends who have a house there. It is a bit too isolated for me, although I love visiting there when they are there! Thanks for the suggestion.

Some new islands are being created near Dubai. Very luxurious living!

Not my thing, though. Too fancy. I like a little grit in my life!!! Comes from growing up in a town with gravel streets, I guess. You know exactly what I’m talking about!!!

I enjoyed reading your posts on food. I was about to say what about nasi goreng and then you mentioned it. I once told someone ketchup originated in Indonesia and they insisted it originated in China. I was right, right???? It was in a trivia match and I was sure they were wrong.

Same here. Dubai is purely man made and lacks that earthly feel. It seems as if everything is too artificial and you shell out good amount of money to afford those luxuries. Puducherry and Kerala esp. Kochin beaches are best in India.

The only time I’ve been in India, I was in Mumbai (then Bombay.) It was such a shock to my 19 year old self that I never returned…The poverty, the cages area. I need to give other parts of India a chance. Perhaps I’ll check out her beaches.

You are very well-traveled. I mentioned Laguna Beach in my post. You told me you knew it well. I don’t have any other suggestions but you’ll get them from others I hope 🙂

Laguna Beach was a very special place in the early 80’s–as was the Huntington Beach pier. H. Beach has changed completely, however. I was last in Laguna about 5 years ago.

I like going there because it’s sandy at the shore. Many beaches have rocks nowadays. But, it’s also fun to walk around.

I wrote many a poem on that beach!!! (The beach was better than the poems at that point!)

What a delightful choice to have to make! I’ll take any beach house with plenty of sunshine, a nice bit of shade from a local palm tree and the rush of the surf. Sigh.
