Epiphyllum and Bougainvillea––Flower of the Day May 8, 2016

Sharps, sharps and sharps.  The serrated edges of epiphyllum join the puncturing thorns of the bougainvillea and the lacerating coil of razor wire to insure this wall and gate are unscalable.  That’s security Mexican style.

Certainly moving to Mexico has moved my color palette up a notch. Did I ever tell you what my Mexican artist friend told me? He says peyote has leached out into the soil. That is why Mexican corn has so many different colors of kernels, and when the people eat this corn, that heightening of the senses that peyote brings is transmitted and that is why they have such an appreciation of bright colors here. Not scientific, I’m sure, but so poetic.
