This cheerful riot of color is my friend Candace’s house in Chapala. Have you ever seen a more colorful door, or more colorful surroundings?

Love those arches and the vibrant colour, Judy. I used Lake Chapala near Guadalajara as a setting for the first book I wrote. Are you near there. I’ve never been but used Google Earth to explore it. Looks very like a place we lived in when we were in Spain.

I’ve lived there (here) for fifteen years, Jean. I think it is a signal that you should finally visit the place. It is magical.
Tell me about your book.

It was my first venture into writing a novel, Judy. It’s YA and I set it a couple of decades into the future. Then I went to a self-publishing workshop and realized it was too long for a YA so I made it into a trilogy. The adventure stretches from Chicago to Antarctica and finishes up in Mexico – and that’s only the first book, lol. I can honestly say my writing was ‘all over the place’ but I hope it has improved with practice.

And did you choose Chapala simply by reading about it and seeing photos and videos on the internet?

Wow! I think if someone in my neighbourhood painted their house those colours people would think it was a crazy person. And yet this is just beautiful.

She is a friend and I guess a little crazy as we all are down here, but driving home today after an exhausting day putting the feria booth together, I was filled with the most joyous rush–the happiest I’ve been in years–and so grateful to be living in a place where the streets are so full of life even after dark with a string of headlights like double-strung pearls stretching out in front of me for miles. Now how is that for straying off the point???

I think if I lived in such a colourful environment I couldn’t help but feel happy all the time. Maybe it’s time we all painted our houses brightly.

I agree. Coming back to the states the first time after an extended stay in Mexico was a shock. We noticed the difference the minute we crossed the border.

It sure beats dull bland monotones 😉
Nice fine.

If one visits places like Oia in Santorini, or St Johns, Newfoundland. Or even Nelson B.C. one will see similar riot of colour, on houses. Quite nice! Cheers Jamie.

I’d like to see Newfoundland and Iceland and Greenland one day.

Whoa, talking about colorful! So different from the area I live, where everything (not only doors) is a predictable color! Love your capture!

I guess it will either bring smiles or disbelief, depending on a person’s outlook…or maybe both. It certainly made me smile. It always seems that people who live in places that are dark more of the time might have more colorful buildings, clothes, etc. to compensate, but it doesn’t seem to work that way.

I think it does in Newfoundland.

If I was passing your house unaware, I’d make a lot of photos of your entrance and then you’d see them on here. 🙂 Must be a blast seeing this on a daily basis.
