Three Pics of the New Floor

The spare room just grew up.  Got rid of the twin beds in favor of a “matrimonial” bed (Mexican for double bed.) Haven’t done a spread yet.. this is makeshift, but looks more grown up, I think.

I know the living room looked warmer before, but the salitre was eating it alive. The new floor looks like natural stone and is impervious to the salitre.

About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

Thanks, Janet. Still a bit of a mess as my carpenter just stopped tonight to take my computer desk, which was broken, so all of the drawers are unloaded with the contents sitting around in boxes, dining room table still covered with retablos to be hung, part of the bedroom you don’t see filled with cleaning supplies, but it is getting there.

Judy, I always loved your old tiles, but but the new floor is beautiful. Lightens up the rooms and makes them look more spacious. One of the upsides of light flooring is you can spot a scorpion at fifty paces!

It is salt peter that works its way out of the concrete in the walls and eats away at tile like acid. They use a different ratio of lime to sand and concrete here and the lime eventually surfaces..A real problem in Mexico, yet they never change.

It looks brighter, lighter too, which is nice. A little less intense and with all the other color you have in your home, neutral floors are probably a better backdrop. Just hope you don’t have to ever do this again! LOTTA work. LOTTA.

Looks beautiful, Judy. Hope I get to see it in person one of these days, but seems like the timing never works out, since you’re usually at the coast when we are in Mexico.

Ha. I may sleep there tonight as they’ve been working on bathroom in my room and the smell of wet concrete and the residual dust may make sleeping hard. I’m already having convulsive coughing fits every hour or so… don’t need it bolstered.
