I planted one little plant and didn’t see evidence of it for a year. Then I pulled out all of my aloe plants in front about 6 months ago. When I drove up yesterday, that little plant had climbed over the wall and crept into the space two feet deep and 1/4 of a block long and filled it out completely! They are little but great colonizers! This photo was taken this morning on the side of the wall where that one little plant was originally planted.

Exquisite colour. Birds of Paradise always remind me of Mum. When she died, we covered the top of her coffin with them. We stripped the garden bare of them and had to go scavenging for more! The boys had to cut a sheet of plywood to size to fit on top it was so heavy. It looked absolutely beautiful 🙂

When my Mom died, we weren’t allowed to leave fresh flowers so we had birds of paradise fashioned out of copper and brass and put them in the vase of her crypt.

My mother loved all exotics, but especially birds of paradise.

Tom Robbins, in Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates, frequently refers to the tropics as “just too damned vivid.” I think of that phrase every time you post one of these wildly colorful pictures of the plants around your home. Vivid!

I’ve seen some of your photos of interior shots. Those, too, vivid! And terrific! They’d look misplaced up in New England, but down in southern climes? Perfect. 🙂

Yes. That’s why they had to deport me.
