44 Words of Bliss

bliss

in darkness
under tossing palms
clouds obscuring stars
the small dog newly well
running to find the ball

bliss not a thing hand-delivered
for years now
I need to go find it like
a green ball buried in the shadows
of succulent obscuring vines

For dVerse poets–a quadrille (44 word poem) on the topic of bliss.

And now going out to throw it. We haven’t been able to play our nightly games since Morrie had his surgery. He just got his stitches out, a clean bill of health. No malignancy. And the vet’s permission to play again, including swimming and fetching.

Thanks, Janice. Actually, the complete story is that we play fetch every night around midight–me in the pool, Morrie dropping the ball in the pool, my fetching it and throwing it down to the lower garden. He fetches, then, brings the ball back to me and drops it in the pool. If I’m not fast enough, her jumps in the pool and fetches it himself. We haven’t been able to do it for a few weeks because he had surgery. Stitches out today and the vet said okay to play again. He’s a speed demon and expert at finding the ball in the dark.

Glad your guard dog Morrie is better. I have had a few very good hunting dogs. When they talk to us, we should probably try to listen better. Our great-granddaughter is now working at the following pet grooming place.
