A Surefire Recipe for Banishing Dejection
If you’re feeling down and out about this last election,
here’s a recipe that might banish your dejection.
Or, if instead your problem is way too much to do,
this selfsame concoction might just work for you.
You need to take a holiday away from all your hurrying.
Life was not created for perpetual worrying.
Take all the world’s problems and put them on a shelf.
Take a little time off purely for yourself.
Find a ripe banana, a papaya and some ice.
Blueberries, soy milk, fiber and some apple juice are nice.
Don’t worry if the papaya has a big brown spot.
You can cut it out because, poisonous? It’s not.
Put it in a blender. Push the button with your finger.
It’s not automatic, so you will have to linger
while the magic little blades make your concoction thinner.
Take a meditation break as you watch its spinner.
After just a minute, retire with your drink.
Take it to an easy chair to have a little think.
Chances are your problem is that you do not sin enough,
so, pour a little gin in if you find it isn’t thin enough.
The Ragtag prompt today is Holiday.
Delightful, Judy! I wish you could beam me a glass up here to the courtroom!

They let you read blogs in court??? Bet the judge doesn’t know and she/he definitely would frown on any smoothie, let alone one laced with gin.

My judge is cool and laid back. As long as I’m doing my job, and as long as I can snap to at a moment’s notice, he doesn’t care if I read or blog during court. And he wouldn’t care if I took a nip of gin, either, as long as I shared it with him!

Hell, last July, I composed and posted a blog entry during court:

Love the verse. 🙂
Sure, you SAY the black spot isn’t poisonous… but i’m not going to be eating it just in case…(Icky!)
Not sinning enough is DEFINITELY NOT my problem!!! 😉
Enjoy the smoothie you smoothie. 😉

Now understand, you should not eat the black circle–it’s just that if you cut it out, no danger lurks. So say I.

Well that goes without saying… just sayin’ 😉

Aha! Before I got to that last line, I was thinking about adding a shot of rum. Yum!

Gin just sounded more evil, somehow.

I am still in the pirate mode, and they were evil and drank rum – remember the song? Besides, rum is a staple in my house; cheap spiced variety for baking and mixed drinks and fancy aged ones for my husband and guests to enjoy with cigars.
P.S. To me, gin smells and tastes of stale pine needles, and don’t ask why!

I am trying to wean myself off a lifetime of Diet Coke, Dolly. I suspect that the caffeine free Diet Coke I have drunk since its invention and even the regular Diet Coke cause my severe leg and arm cramps at night plus back pain. (Probably the Aspartame, but my Dr. told me to go off all colas.) Since I can’t find any other mixer I like as much with my Bacardi Anejo Rum, I’ve had to give it up as well. Gin and Tonic has replaced my drink of choice and thus the defection in my “recipe.” Remember when little old lady moonshiners used to call it “the recipe?” Ha.

I am sorry to hear about your leg and arm cramps, and I hope gin and tonic serves you as effective medicine.
I’ve never heard about little old lady moonshiners; I wasn’t here yet and haven’t read it anywhere, so I thank you for this bit of colorful information.

It was on “The Waltons.” Did you ever watch it? Two sisters who were always talking about “the recipe” handed down to them by their father. Here is more info. on its background and how it came to be:

Thank goodness for Google. I was going crazy trying to remember what play or movie or tv show they were from.

As I had thought, I wasn’t here yet. Very interesting, though, and thank you for the link. My frame of reference includes Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie, but I was too busy anyway as a single mother working three jobs and trying to make a life in a new country. On Sundays, I would take my son to museums, exhibitions, concerts, or opera. TV was way far on my list.

Smart lady, although I loved The Waltons. I haven’t had TV for most of my adult life, but I watch programs on Netflix.
