Fandango’s provocative question is whether the U.S. is open to electing an openly gay presidential candidate.
If you had asked me in 2016 if the U.S. was open to a bigoted, sexist, totally incompetent, traitorous braggart and fool, I would have said, “No.”Β So, I guess I’m not the person to ask. That disclaimer stated, I have to regretfully say no again and hope, again, that I am wrong. I must say that I would love it if we could take one more giant leap away from bigotry. I will also say that much as I’d like to see a gay person or a woman in the presidency, I hope that everyone remains solid in finding a candidate who can beat Trump. That is the most important issue right now. Yes, there is a need to change the Democratic party but that is something to do after we have presented a solid unified front to overcome this huge shame of the past 4 years. Our country and the world may depend on it. Now is not the time for divisiveness. There has been enough of that over the past 4 years, and the campaign year before that. Let’s get hypocrisy and elitism out of the White House, then out of the Senate and House. And our of our own hearts, as well.
Well said Judy! The most important thing right now is having the right person to BEAT Trump. π

Well said, Judy. The priority has to be to defeat Trump and get that moron out of office.

I agree completely. In the grand scheme of world leadership, sexual preference is a pretty minor selling point (or detraction). We need a GOOD LEADER who understands how to get along with people, whose idea of leadership isn’t a constant gratuitous “reality show” drama. As for sexual preference, really, the only person that should EVER matter to is the person in question and his/her partner.

Amen. So long as they aren’t a sexual predator.

I think you are right but I want you to be wrong. I didn’t think we’d see a black president either, so miracles happen. And we could use another one!

Great answer! Many people who replied on his post were well meaning but were replying with their own preference of yes of course it would be fine. Thatβs not the question. The question is about the country in general, the same country who elected the thing we have now.

Yep. Unfortunately. And no one seems to be changing their mind. Stubborn deadlock.

I am torn about wanting someone βwho can beat Trumpβ vs. the leader I really want to see in the White House (not necessarily the same thing, right?). Iβll not get involved until we shake a lot of these candidates out of the tree. I just wish our news media would quit focusing on all the wrong things β just what got the Twit elected in the first place.

Yes. The majority of the U.S. is ready for a gay President. Unfortunately we have a system of government that gives disproportionate power to low population states. It’s no surprise to me that Butigieg is willing to eliminate the electoral college in favor of a truly democratic (the one with the most votes wins) approach.
