Finishing What God Started

Once the polar ice has melted and the animals departed,
It’s only right that we continue on with what we’ve started.
It will be the biggest news that humankind has won.
We’ll eradicate the universe, and our job will be done!

Prompt words for today are melt, news, universe and eradicate.

I am comforted that we won’t eradicate the universe. We may eradicate ourselves, but Earth is amazingly resilient. if we fail as a species, Earth will rebuild and there will be another dominant species. maybe the next round will work out better than this one did.

I read a really good article in “National Geographics” about how when that huge asteroid hit earth and ended the Cretaceous period, it literally ended most life on earth. It blocked out the sun with dust and dirt, killed all the dinosaurs — and they’d been around and dominant for more than 60-million years. It killed most of the vegetation. Until that whack by that asteroid, earth didn’t have ice caps. We were a hot, wet, probably stinky pile of reptiles and swamps.

When the earth returned, we were part of its return and became the dominant species. But if we blow ourselves up? Earth WILL go on. We won’t, but Earth will find a way. I don’t know if you find that comforting, but I kind of do. We aren’t capable of ending everything, just us. Which is as it should be.

If there IS any kind of God, he/she/they need to step up to the plate and say “STOP!” I’m not sure anything else would do it. I’m not holding my breath, but hey, anything is possible!

It’s quite possible that we eradicate mankind — I think it would take another asteroid to eradicate the universe. I truly hope that we don’t eradicate mankind, though — I sorta like it here!
