Puzzled
Life is an exquisite puzzle whose pieces do not fit
each and every time that we seek to conquer it.
Its pieces are not shaped ahead. We form them as we go.
No solutions irrefutable. We grow them as we grow.
Caprice may may make life difficult—impossible to match
the present situation to pieces in the batch
cut out when life was scheduled, predictable and set
to lead in a direction where we will never get.
Life is wild and errant. It goes not where we lead.
We think that it’s the flower, but sometimes it’s just seed
that’s sewn in rocky soil that does not heed its growth.
Good fortune and adversity? We need to fit them both
into the picture of our lives. Each has its unique power
to turn what looks impossible into a thriving flower.
My guiding words today were caprice, irrefutable, errant, exquisite and puzzle.
I loved your allegory, Judy!

O, the power in a word. I am especially glad to see your daily “prompt” words called “guide” words, which you fit into poetic messages that I find, always, to be either heart or mind expanding, and which, on my best days, do influence me, your lucky reader. Thank you!

Incidentally, I started posting “My Grandmother’s Recipes” in my son’s translation – did you see? It’s all your fault, you made me do it!

Yes. I did notice and meant to comment.. Things have been crazy. Had a bad fall today and I’m feeling sorry for myself. Ouch.

Oh I am so sorry! Did you see a doctor, or, rather, has a doctor seen you? X-ray, CAT scan, all this good stuff?

No.. Just wrenched. Muscle and ligament stuff. No bones broken.

most embarrassing thing was that I was entering a restaurant and went sprawling when my toe caught on the lip of the step…I landed face down in full view of kitchen, guests and waiters. All came running. Grace.

Does Grandma have anything to help a hurt leg and back? No chocolate in the house.

That depends on the damage – heat or cold. Heat, if it’s only soft tissues bruise, and cold, if a doctor says so. Feel better, dear friend!

I put ice on it and will get in the hot tub later. I was thinking more in the nature of edible therapy!!!

How about some drinkable therapy, since there is no chocolate available?

I’m sure the poem came first — but it’s perfect in light of your fall! Take care of yourself — you’re probably still just a little off from the travels, and a fall like that can set you back for a few days too. Hugs, and a virtual chocolate kiss!

Interesting how our words come back to us. Thank you for reminding me of what I was perfectly sure this morning! We just have to keep reminding each other. I took an Ibuprofin and put peyote/arnica gell on about half of my body and it and ice have helped a bit. Had to go down and turn off the water to the pool and empty water out of the birdbath as it occurred to me it must be breeding mosquitos. It was. I made it down and back and am feeling no pain if I sit still.

Glad you’re feeling a bit better, but do expect to be sore for a few days — take care 🙂 ! You do have the advantage of ‘cures’ that are unusual for here — I’ve not heard of peyote/arnica gel before, although one of my doctors recommended arnica montana for seelling after a minor surgery.

Arnica is great either by mouth or as a salve.
