This is my first new surviving bloom on this white hibiscus–the last addition to my hibiscus family. It was the beloved of snails who tended to decimate it before it bloomed until I started dumping the cats’ uneaten dry catfood at its base. They haven’t touched it since. I just started tapping out the leftover dry catfood they’d left at the bottom of their bowl against the side of the big flower pot that held the hibiscus. Another deterrant to snails is to sprinkle very fine hair cuttings around the plant and even over the leaves. They get under the snail shells and they are a big irritant. They just go away. Strange but true.

That’s a gorgeous addition to your hibiscus family — I didn’t know they come in white too! I missed your earlier post about the rain and the cat food and the snails — what an easy trick to protect the flowers! I don’t see many snails around here, but will remember that cat food and hair send them running!

I am guessing that they feed on the catfood down below instead of climbing up the pot and branches. They like the catfood. The hair drives them crazy. like permanent itchies.
