I’ve been trying to figure out what kind of tree that is and what sort of … memorial(?) … is in it. It looks like the perfect home for a family of chipmunks or squirrels.

We just had Day of the Dead. Many times these memorials are done at the spot where someone died in a car accident or along a road where a pedestrian was hit, so it is possible this is why it is placed here, but since it is in front of a home, perhaps they just thought it provided a good spot.
