Christmas Spirit

Covering the Christmas tree, decking every door,
Excessive seasonality suffuses my decor.
Embellishments without cannot reflect what’s in.
Too often Xmas cheer’s bound up in what has been. 
If a helping hand could decorate my heart,
then the celebration perhaps could have a start.

    Judy,
    I find myself just waiting for Christmas to come and go. I seem a little like the Grinch this year, for what reason, I don’t know. Maybe it will get better! I know the economy needs this shopping time, and people certainly love the buying and decorating.

    Oh, what a beautiful sentiment, the decoration of the heart. I feel this, deeply. I am desperately trying this season to make sure there are fewer gifts, but more PRESENCE. More connections with people. More being in the moment. More celebration, less fuss.

    You can’t buy heartsease in the shops though. We’re not doing any of the mallarky this year. Decorating the trees with bird food and filling the shopping trolley for the food bank is going to be our limit.
    Btw I found a couple of your comments in my spam can. I released them but have no idea where they went. Not to their rightful places any way. Thanks for commenting and if you didn’t get a reply it wasn’t out of rudeness 🙂

      I’ve been having problems with none of my pingbacks or links working and also others have said my comments went into Spam. I think (hope) it is corrected now as my pings worked today.

        Christmas stress over presents is something I was prepared to accept when the children were small and we had very little money. I think they’re old enough now to understand that there is no Father Christmas 🙂

            I’m afraid I never did encourage the Father Christmas myth and certainly never received lists. They tell me they loved their presents and appreciated the ingeniousity of them, odd things, usually second hand that absolutely nobody else would have received. Once you start to beat yourself up over not being able to dish out the latest rubbish that ‘s being pushed down all the kids’ throats, you’re lost.

    I’m reminded by your post that the Christmas season can be an extremely difficult time of year for some. I am reminded of my dear dear friend who just lost her husband of 49 years two days ago. For her, the Christmas lights will be a melancholy reminder of missing love.

      I went to a Xmas party today where a children’s choir sang. I cried all the way through the songs. We have had five deaths in my neighborhood plus one of a local best friend in the past week. It is just incredible! Hard to feel the joy of Xmas when you realize your friends will never experience one again.

        The church I used to go to had one special Christmas service for those experiencing loss or having difficulty with all the hoopla because of their sad memories or difficulties. I thought it a wondetfully compassionate idea.

          Yes.. a good idea. I think that beautiful music and sympathetic voices just set it off in me. And I was remembering past Christmases as well. My mother absolutely loved Christmas and made it a magical time for us.

    I’m sorry to hear of your recent losses, Judy. I’ve been saying recently that I thought I might abolish Christmas this year — there’s nothing I particularly want as a gift, time has gotten ahead of me, and I’m just not into “the mood” I’ll be in Santa Barbara for 2 weeks.over the holidays, and will be happy to resume life afterwards!!
