About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

Sorry, Yoli. This was just too funny not to share. I think she was objecting to the incredibly scratchy hoop skirt under her pretty dress. Her mom took it off her at the restaurant and I felt how uncomfortable it must have been. The rest of the day she was all smiles…

This is a great collection of light photos. I love the shot of Yoli — when I was in HS, we wore crinolines under full skirts — the more the better. My mother used to say we all looked like “tea cozies!” I hated them for their scratchiness!

I wore them, too, but this was a hoop skirt made of really coarse netting and the seams were cut so the unhemmed edges faced in. They were torture. I think if it had been worn inside out so the scratchy side was agains the dress, not her legs, it would have been a bit better.
