About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

One of my grandfathers, may he rest in peace, was born in 1900. He was 5 years old when the Black Hundred pogroms decimated the Jewish population of the Pale of Settlement, and most of his family perished. He and two older cousins survived. You saw it in Fiddler on the Roof.

I know. I’m always afraid such numbers will minimize the present pandemic, but what people need to realize that we now have the means to better understand and deal with plagues. To compare ourselves to the past does not compute…

My goodness, how powerful. Those kids born in 1985 who complain about wearing masks have no idea of the poor Army medic’s wife, left at home to raise two children alone on his subsistence allotment that required her to buy one carrot at a time to help feed the family! Even born in 1940, I have little idea of how difficult it was to live the years leading up to the wars and financial crashes!
