I planted mine from last Christmas in the garden this summer and it thrived but I forgot to bring it in before the first frost. Nice to see that the colours do come back.
They aren’t ever going to be red. They’ll be a deeper peach color. I believe I have some red ones on the other side of the house. I had one red one that grew into a tree, but I’m afraid maybe they cut it down when they were doing the mural on the studio. Hope not..It was a friend’s gift right after I moved into the house. It was house plant then, planted outside and how it took off.
In Honolulu, there is a stretch along a freeway where there are poinsettias — they keep them covered until just about now so they don’t turn too soon, then uncover them for about the last 6 weeks before Christmas, by which time they have turned a brilliant red. I hope your red tree will come back in time — it may take a yer or two to know!

Hard to think of poinsettias as tropical, huh? They are selling them along the road now here, too.
