These are beautiful — it’s a shame they are so temporary, recorded only in photos! I hope he also does some in a more permanent way!

These remind me, though, of some of the Navajo sand paintings, many of which are now painted on a bed of glue to preserve them. I prefer the permanence to the statement of destruction!

Yes. And also the mandalas created by the Buddhist monks out of sand and then destroyed.

This seems to be a direct descendant of Ray Bradbury’s short story “In a Season of Calm Weather”, which was adapted into the movie “The Picasso Summer”. Loved the story, the movie not so much.

I don’t remember this one. Did I ever tell you that I met him twice? Once was at the premiere of his movie, when we both went outside for a cigarette. The second time was at the Santa Barbara poetry conference. Am I name-dropping? Probably.
