Although this view might warrant the term, my least favorite word is “awesome.” HERE is a link to an explanation of why this is so.

Oh I love sunsets and this one is beautiful. The poem is also well said, and I agree that “awesome” is much overused, thus degrading the meaning of the word, making it moot to me at times. I think that such words came into use by young people as “catch phrases” with such words as “grody” becoming its opposite.
I will not discuss filler words that have become a part of the vocabulary with people saying them who do not realize that they are using such foul language, thus degrading my opinion of their intelligence.
Actually I like less used words like “fantabulous”, which is one up from fabulous or incredible while the word unprecedented could be interpreted as either good or bad. But you may notice that I often just say “WOW”~! which may be over used by me, but that is expressing my emotion rather than a statement~! And they are all superior to, and add a lot to, just hitting that lazy “almost nothing statement” “LIKE” ~!!

While thinking about the above, another auto verbal response came to mind. I wrote about it some time back:

I don’t use awesome very often, I use awe-inspiring instead.

Used in the right place, I’ll accept that. And even use it myself, but sparingly and hopefully appropriately. We need to give power back to the word.

LoL! I remember your original post about how you are anti-awesome (the word). And you know what, Judy? It had an affect on me. I was falling into the mindless use of awesome and after reading your post those many years ago, I curtailed it. Now I mostly use “awesome” with a heavy dose of the [sarcasm font].
Thus proving one never knows who or how their written words will affect another. 🙂
