Mexican Petunia: FOTD April 30, 2022

This plant grows like a weed along all the borders of my garden. It has been identified for me at least once, but I can’t remember what it is. If you know, you’ll score points for filling me in on it. The flower is about 2 or 2 1/2 inches wide. Several people below guessed it was a petunia and I was sure they were wrong, but turns out I’m wrong. Its popular name is “Mexican Petunia,” even though they are not closely related.

I have an unidentified little purple one the looks like a ground cover. I think someone told me it really IS a ground cover that somehow wound up on our property. It’s all over the place and I have no idea what it is. Purple. It spread. Yours look kind of petunia-ish.

Not a vine.. It is a very invasive tall plant. Wish I’d never planted it. I was playing the devil’s advocate when I offered to send you seen. Brah–ha–ha!

I used the plant identifier and it, too, said it was a Mexican Petunia but in the past someone identified it as another plant. It is on tall stalks unlike regular petunias and is much more fragile than a petunia but perhaps it is called this because it resembles it? Back to Google. Thanks for commenting, Sam.
