I confess to not understanding modern ‘make-up’ makeovers or face painting much, if any at all – and yet – I feel akin to this post/the beauty of it – simply because, let me attend any public celebration, including a vendor stall that says, ‘let me brush your hair and braid it in [this/that traditional/cultural fashion] and I’m ALL in! Ahh! The bliss of taking part in a community celebration and for me, personally? OH thank goodness! They did such small, tiny, wonderfuly built things! I can sleep in it, work in it – I don’t have to waste time on anything other than scalp cleanse for the WEEK! or MORE! No drying, no styling, no brushing, combing out of tangles – AHHH!!! YESS! Thank YOU! Now I can go just do what I wanna do and yet, folks look upon and say, “Wow! I love your hair! How do you do that??” and I can say, “I don’t – I’ll need help when I let it go for too long and someone will have to help me unwind the bands, pins or weaves OR shave me bald so I can just ‘start over’ – but – yes, there are folks around who specialize in this stuff – and here’s who did this – and you want this/willing to go as needed? Here’s who to call! Seriously! I took a nap/daydreamed while they had a conversation with every hair on my head – LOL
I had to track it down after I failed to find ‘it’ here in my WP blog! How did I fail in sharing that photo here? from 2016?? I’m certain I’ve written/shared tales of all the wonderful interactions and stories I listened to while walking ‘Row of Clans’ that day – but alas – had to go grab it off Facebook, upload here so you could see – here is the link to the photo: https://ballybin.files.wordpress.com/2022/11/atlocalcelticfestival2016.jpg
And, just for your ‘LOL” here is what I intro’d with a week or more AFTER that day my friend took a picture of the back of my hair, cuz I said, “Really? How cool does it look? Take a picture, you know I don’t have a lot of mirrors at home!!” and she txt to me on phone I destroyed by dropping in the mop bucket while trying to talk with my friend AND clean house – etc. etc. etc. sometimes? Social media remembering me forever ain’t such a bad thing, after all, right???
[What I posted in gratitude after I realized I needed help in undoing the braids/to wash my hair and get rid of tangles 1-2 weeks later….August of 2016 after July 18th post)
“Update – because I’m ‘beauty routine’ challenged, thank you to Mendy Gonzales for patiently hunting out all the bobby pins, unbraided the whole thing without putting tangled mess that could only be solved with men’s buzz style clippers (which I would have caused, all by myself) – Thank You So MUCH Mendy! For saving me, my head and my hair, from myself after I said, “I love Celtic – do what you want, I’ll just sit here….” – Seriously, it SEEMED like a good idea, in the moment… LOL”
The ‘artist’ with booth at the fair? Ahhh… given ‘legnth’ canvas to play with and one who said, “I’m ready to sit and process the incoming info already heard, before I venture out into listening, learning, gathering more!” and she, her ways, and kindness of being/skills? Ahhh – I may have struggled in overtaxing her creation for too long, or DIY, but sitting in the chair of that ‘artisan?’ One of my beloved memories of a creative that held the space for themselves AND me, for a moment in time – ❤
