That’s exactly what I thought. It’s like they were the only guests who thought it was a costume party. And their folks won’t let them take their costumes off.
I may be ‘projecting’ me, onto animals thoughts/engaging in anthromorphism?? (need to look the right word/meaning up AGAIN!) but – sigh – any time there is a animal pic posted in (mainly , dogs/cats) wearing hat, costume, or such for human holidays? To me the who body line, the eyes, the set of the head? shoulders? Just screams out to me….the pet brain saying, “Sigh – the things I put up with out of love of my human pack-mate” – – LOL Happy New Year Judy!
I know… I agree. My dogs would have had those hats off in two seconds. i found a photo that well demonstrated how my dogs deal with costumes. If it comes up again I’ll post it.
😀 A rescue/dog trainer told me once, (in reference to my question if I was doing the best for Oakley, my rescue border collie, since I just said, ‘yes’ even though unqualified??)
“She barks because she does – she’s a dog! She doesn’t have your memory, brain, or heart – stop trying to believe she does…”
And yet, a week later, at the annual check-up, I said, “Please, can you really check her eyes/ears? I know she is getting older – but she has always barked when folks arrive – drive by on the street – now? She just mosey’s along and goes ape s**T when they LEAVE! Even if guests have been petting her the entire time they were here! Especially if they exit/move fast – and I’m in no danger at all (they are following me when my back is turned…like, we are heading to the kitchen to get more tea/coffee, etc….)
Ahhh….. cataracts starting to cloud…..hearing degraded a bit since last year’s check up – – And vet, known to me since my childhood, said gently,
“Yes, and it’s going to change – she is getting older – but she is doing really good for her age…so just adjust as you can, as she gets older’ –
I do so love my vet, who now? Is walking towards retirement, but his assistant and vet in line to take over the biz? Are the ones who sat beside me as Oakley moved to the Happy Hunting Ground – and so, for me?
Myself? Moral of the story?? “Well, okay, so I’m not a dog and she ain’t a human, but that stuff that changes? If you know who to ask/what way to ask? You usually get the answer and find out what to do going forward…” –
Thus, I’ve watched pets of my friends with the long suffering look of the betrayed, sit still for pictures, to post, then immediately tear it off – and maybe, too, just to express their displeasure – mess with the TP roll, or use the indoor floor for their evacuation needs, etc., and I always wink and silently laugh with the dog, when my friends exclaim over, “What brought that on????” – me? I think I know, but well – to me? Sometimes, It feels as if the dog looks at me and understands, I’m in on the ‘joke’ – maybe, maybe not – but for myself?
Keeps me entertained in daily life – so the dog’s job is done – as far as I’m concerned – LOL
Judy, they don’t look overly thrilled but they are super cute!
