Fat Tuesday, San Juan Cosala, Mexico, Feb. 21, 2023

Men and Boys dressed up as women and girls, bushels of flour flung through the air. Must be Fat Tuesday! I’d brushed myself off before these photos were taken. More surprises awaited when I disrobed to shower, however!  I could have baked a loaf of bread!!!

About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

Shrove Tuesday is commonly referred to as Pancake Tuesday in the UK and North America. Shrove Tuesday was the last opportunity to use up eggs and fats before embarking on the Lenten fast and pancakes are the perfect way of using up these ingredients.
We used to do Pancake Tuesday breakfasts at my school every year but it was discontinued when we couldn’t get the equipment anymore from the gas company.
