I have tried to grow these in pots, but whatever care they need, I don’t seem to be providing it.

Just give them sunlight and pretty much ignore them. Give them a little bit of water once a week or so but don’t let them stand in water.

I think mine were potted in the wrong soil. I’m going to try again since these require the same care as my cactus and for that matter, orchids. All very little water and leave them alone!
