Two days ago I was without electricity for 5 or 6 hours. There are two lines into the house and one was totally out and the other on 1/2 power. They always tell you to unplug appliances so they won’t be damaged by a surge when the electricity comes on. The fridge was on 1/2 power so had some current coming in. It is plugged in behind a little cupboard I had built to hold bread so critters can’t get into it and when I reached back and unplugged it, I heard a pop and a big pain shot through my hand. Yolanda was there and came running over asking what was wrong.. I said I must have come in contact with a live charge when I unplugged the fridge but when I looked back to see if it was completely unplugged, guess what I saw?
I’ll tell you after at least 5 people guess!!!!
Okay, 5 people guessed, so you can find the answer HERE.

I wonder what was eating the wires. Judy I know that you have a breaker box, that is where you should be throwing the breakers~! But you already know this~! Those cats may not be doing their work~!

But that breaker box is far below in the control room for the pool. The one for the rest of the house was outside the kitchen door and more accessible. But you are right. Problem is, I wouldn’t know when the electricity came on again, and that breaker box had a surge protector as did all my other vulnerable equipment.. computers and TV. Excuses escuses. And, you wouldn’t have had this crazy tale to read.

I have been in the same fix. so like if it is the refrigerator that needs to be turned off. I open the door, a little light comes on~! (isn’t that neat”, I then throw and reset each breaker until that light goes off~! Now only the breaker in question is off~!, giving me more amperage to the rest of the lights. So was it rats or just very bad electrical work~?

I have no idea, but how is your hand?

It was fine. So much less than the last two “accidents” I suffered. Something is telling me something.

I remember when I set that trap being worried Yolanda might get caught in it so I took great care to show her where I’d placed it. Little did I know.

I have no idea — but a power surge is what killed my old fridge last year. I now have a special power surge protection thing on the plug to protect my new fridge.
