Progress Report: The State of the Spare Lot: On Display Before and After

Isolation for a year during Covid gave me more hammock time and more time to peruse the lot below me that I had bought tens year before. It had been a dumping spot for the entire neighborhood for years, and although I had tried to clear out the ten-foot high castor bean plants and other weeds once a year, I suddenly developed a yen to do more. This is the result so far!

How lovely. Good to see that making a space beautiful takes as long as writing a book. Look forward to seeing the space in person soon

Thanks, Judy. Started listening to your book last night but the AI reader on Kindle is horrid so will start rereading it by eye tonight.

Thanks, Judy. I haven’t looked very far into the future… I think a few days with you after the retreat would be delightful. Let’s keep talking about it.

I had lots of help. Hired people to cut down the worse of the castor bean plants that grew up taller than the uphill wall. That is Oscar and Yolanda helping Pasiano clear some of the lower weeds. Tree cutters came and removed unwanted and dead bee-infested trees and the guy in the photo worked 6 hours leveling the ground and removing boulders..I hired a bricklayer to ring the beds with brick. So, my part was the designing and selecting and purchasing and arranging and hiring part. Plus standing up above surveying the scene and saying which way to move things and how far!!! That is one of the beauties of living in Mexico. One can actually afford to hire help. For 14 years in CA I did everything re plants on my two acres.. plus setting up my own watering system for plants in containers on a huge porch. This is such a luxury to be able to get help! And 22 years later, to be honest, I wouldn’t be capable of doing all the work myself.

This was great Judy. I love being a part of projects like this. So much to look forward to and enjoy once it is done. The snake sculpture was unique. Very nice. Great for the display prompt.
