The egg hunters this time were Isidro’s six grandchildren. For first-time Easter Egg hunters, they did a fine job of it, finding all but one egg which is still hiding somewhere in my friend Rita’s yard. She provided the beautifully decorated cookies. Please enlarge at least that photo so you can see the amazing butterfly carved into its icing. That’s Isidro (the friend who illustrates my books) next to the cookie, and next to him, all his grandkids and their moms, one of whom (Paloma) was a very small girl when I moved here 23 years ago. She was the winner in a “Clean up the Lake” poster contest I had for kids way back then. I guess that dates me. The last two photos are of friends Rita and Jere. Rita provided the cookies and the beautiful garden to use for the event. Jere helped me hide the eggs and provided juice boxes for the kids. I was the Easter Bunny, providing the filled eggs. My neighbor David made all the darling signs scattered around the yard. This may become a yearly event. (P.S. The kids all decorated their own egg cartons to use in collecting the eggs.)
Where were people like you when I was a child? That looks like so much fun for those youthful short people 🐰

Ha.. youthful short people. I think their moms and Granddad had as much fun as they did. They just couldn’t stay out of the action. Next year I’ll have some special thing for adults to look for so they leave the kids alone! ;o) Just kidding. It was fun to see how excited they all got.

I know. I agree on both counts, Sadje. Just took an easter basket to my across the street neighbors as they have young kids.. Turns out they had already had an Easter Egg hunt for them. A surprise as they are Mexican!! Not a tradition here.. So they’ll have a second hunt “on me.” I put some tiny bobble head toys in two of theirs as well.

This takes me back to our egg hunts in South Dakota. It was as much fun hiding them for you when you were little as it was searching for them myself. Happy Easter! 🐰🐥🐇🐤

Do you think everybody’s folks did this for them at Easter, Patti? Did Patty Peck’s parents do so?

Do you remember the year Mother found one of the Easter nests she’d hidden for us when she was decorating for Xmas?

Happy Easter Judy. Your lovely way of cheering up your neighbours says more about what a wonderful person you are than anything else. I have just had a lovely Easter lunch with my son, his wife and my adorable 25 month old grandson, Toby. Watching him in his high chair smashing his first chocolate egg to bits made my day. You always remind me that loving everyone is the only way to live
Love & god bless

I think Easter egg hunts may have been a new thing for my English mother. She was very creative in hiding them inside calla lilies and in the holes in the phone dial — and we always spent an afternoon dying eggs on Friday or Saturday, too! I can imagine how exciting it must be for the little Mexican kids and their parents to experience it all for the first time!
