No, will you tell us? I think of it sorta like a bumpkin, which is a dumb or backward guy, as in “country bumpkin.” But bupkis sounds more like a Jewish word. Right?

It is an Yiddish word which means ‘nothing’ or ‘next to nothing,’ e.g. “They pay me bupkes for this backbreaking work.” Originally, it came from ‘bub,’ which means a goat or sheep turd; in plural, ‘bubkes.’ Literally, ‘bupkes’ means something as valuable, as a goat’s doo-doo.
