About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

Here in Canada, thousands of Canadians are checking labels and are not buying American products. Grocery stores are starting to stock more Canadian products. Some items are difficult. We’ve discovered oranges from Spain and Egypt, cookies from Sri Lanka and a whole bunch of fresh produce that comes from Canadian greenhouses, including strawberries and lettuce. This has been going on ever since Trump threatened us with tariffs a month ago. I love Marshalls and Michaels but I won’t be going there on Friday and I’m not buying from Amazon. I will try to hold off for weeks and months if it helps. Many of my friends have already cancelled vacations to the US and will be travelling across Canada instead or going to Europe. Every time Trump or his staff refers to Canada as the 51st state, Canadians buckle down even more.

They already raised the per pallet tax from .50- 7.00 in January and that’s just barge loads from Seattle. I can’t even imagine what they are gonna tack on when the tariffs come through.

Please note that small local businesses in Mexico should not be included in this boycott, although Walmart and Costco in Mexico are owned by American Corporations and so should be. It is important that we pass the message on!!!
