An Apologia for Indolence
Those beasts that prowl the underworld with claws uncoiled to strike
assume the right to wander anywhere they like.
They thread their ways through canyons, all over the map––
through every twisting river’s course, through every mountain gap.
Stuck tight to their temples are their matted strands of hair.
Masked by tree limbs and tall grasses, they maintain their vigilance where
a hunter or a camper or a homeless, shiftless sort
unschooled in the ways of beasts, chooses to cavort.
Thus do those loved ones vanish who choose to exercise
while at home are resting those of us who are more wise!!!
For The Sunday Whirl Wordle, the words are: prowl beast claws shift strands twists wander underworld map thread

Haha! The perils of exercising are many

I consider a day with a doctor appointment, a trip to the grocery and half an hour taking pictures to be exhausting but I’m still trying to get my brain to sit more quietly in my head — without headaches!

What is causing the headaches?

Falling on my head. I am concussed.

Oh no. Does anything help your headaches?

Not really. But time is making it less painful and I think, in the next week or two, I’ll be back to normal.

With pictures. I look a LOT better now, but not falling has become a serious issue.

It was what caused me to get rid of all of my gorgeous Mexican carpets and to retile my entire house with unslippery tile a number of years ago. The esthetics weren’t worth the falls I’d been having.

My doctor says it is vertigo and is very common in people my age. But I was clearly told with considerable force: DON’T FALL AGAIN. My head was really badly hit. CAT scan showed more than I wanted to know. I had to get the scan because my eyes were full of blood and I was mess for a few weeks. I AM better — much better. I didn’t trip. I bent down to find a DVD on a lower shelf and when I stood up, the world went spinning and down I went. It wouldn’t have looked as bad had I not been wearing my glasses which got pushed into my face. I know I’m getting better because my memory is coming back.
My head got really scrambled. The irony is that I’m so careful about being careful to not trip. I didn’t trip. My head went loopy and I just FELL. Garry was sure everyone was going to accuse him of beating me, but at 83, I don’t think he has enough energy to beat anyone up.

I get this if I look up, Marilyn. I no longer get up on ladders at all because of course, when one does, they are usually looking up for something else..and I would be likely to fall.

I thought I was being careful. I had NOT counted on vertigo hitting me exactly when I was least expecting it. We not only get fragile with age, we also get a bit weird. We get diseases we never heard of but are apparently common enough. I don’t think I could BE more careful but apparently bending down and standing up is dangerous. I am glad we live in a pretty place because I think I’d be going crazy elsewhere.
Two gorgeous migrating Orioles came to visit today. They are such a rich orange. Once I managed to actually get pictures of them. Without the suet, we won’t get bluebirds or woodpeckers. I’m very sorry about it, but rabid raccoons do not make good playmates.
