Memories of Bob for dVerse Poets Acrostic Challenge

Memories of Bob
(Judy Dykstra-Brown Acrostic Poem)

Just as I was about to give in to distress,
up came a memory of you,
diverted by all those dreams
you carried in your head.

Dreams consisting of wood, metal, paper, stone––
your first loves
katapulting themselves into your art.
Sculptures startling in their originality,
taking their viewers into new worlds,
returning, eventually, to
actual life, and me.

Beautiful memories
return daily, now that you are gone.
Over the years, I see you daily, nonetheless,
when I see what you created––
now the only part of you that remains.

For dVerse Poets the task is to write an acrostic poem for the name of a famous person, loved one or yourself. I used my own name, Judy Dykstra, which after marriage included my husband’s last name as well, blending us, as does this poem. I hope.

And in his sons, as well. All of his older sons are artists and his youngest is now writing books. I just found a book of poems his daughter did. It was for a workshop I know he enrolled her in, but they are lovely, even though I’m sure she didn’t keep writing. So he is also in the children (now adults) he created.

Dear Judy, such a lovely tribute to your Bob … sounds as though you were beautifully matched in the creativity and talent departments. Thank you for leaving me a comment, it was a fun write. I have had a mad crush on him forever.

Hi Judy! I’m  sorry it took me a while to get round to reading your poem, but I finally had the laser treatment on my eyes on Saturday and can see clearly again. I’m glad you used your own name to create your acrostic poem; it’s a lovely tribute to Bob and his character, and to your life together. How wonderful to be married to a talented sculptor. Keep holding on to those beautiful memories.

Thanks, Kim, and I’m so glad your laser treatment restored you to clear sight. I keep thinking they are making the type on labels and address cards smaller and smaller but perhaps it is just my eyes!!! Thanks for reading and commenting on my poem..in type big enough to see!! ;o)
