Once Again
Once Again
The grass is always greener in another town or state.
Perhaps being a newbie she can start with a clean slate.
She’ll improve her deportment and for sure she will begin
to dress much more sedately. She’ll be neat as a pin.
She’ll insure her own wellbeing by befriending saner folk.
No more life of the party. No more a standing joke.
The other times she pulled up stakes were only practice for
this time, when she swore to them, before she slammed the door,
that she’d make something of herself. They should just wait and see.
This time she’d fall much farther from the family tree.
We hope that she is right and that she doesn’t change her mind
And ask along the self she keeps trying to leave behind.
David’s W3 prompt is to write a poem about something we have re-experienced that contains the word “again.”

Nice poem. I kinda like those funky sandals too!

I think, however, I would leak out of them!

Judy your poem shines with its sharp realism and the biting twist at the end- capturing that struggle of trying to outrun oneself and the rhyme is a brilliant contrast to the desperation 👏

Thanks, Ange. I think most I read in blogs have conquered this demon.

Surely you have none of that excess baggage, however. Right?

Wonderful poem, Judy. You are right that we tend to take the self with us, making it hard to really change. But if we are steadfast, we can become the person we were born to be, surprising all others and sometimes, even ourselves.

Regina, it seems to me that you have become pretty much the perfect person. It had been a pleasure to observe it all these years.

I, too, pass. I wear the same rubber sandals every day for every occasion.

But, that said, I don’t think you have to worry about becoming all that you can. I think you’ve already done that, no matter what shoes you wear.
