About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

Bougainvilla: FOTD July 12, 2023

Awaiting yer pic!  ( This was the note on the blog Forgottenman had waiting for me to add a photo to today. What a kind act from a dear person. He was correct in supposing I would forget to post in the rush of things so he made it easier for me.  I have been running all day. First the drive back to Sheridan from Billings after a night in a hotel there, then an eye appointment, then shopping first for groceries and then for all the makeup I did not bring from Mexico because I only brought a carryon and planned to buy all my makeup and other maintenance “stuff” here in the states.  A chat with my friend Patty whom I’m staying with and her guy Duffy and I’m now back in bed. Dr. appt. tomorrow. Rodeo going on across the street.  Lots of drum rolls and crowd cheers and odors a la horses!!!  But this blog is supposed to be about flowers, so here they are!!!!)

Feeling Blue for Sunday Stills

For Sunday Stills: Blue.

Sleeping Over At the Airport

It is 7:20 AM and I’ve been in the Guadalajara Airport since 2 AM. My delayed flight leaves at 9 and I’ll spend another 7 hours cooling my heels in Dallas. All in all it will be 20 hours in airports and in the air and I will arrive 8 hours late and a day late at my destination since I’ll arrive too late at night for my sister to drive the hour and a half to the airport to collect me, and so I will need to spend a night in a hotel. Oh the glories of modern travel. Since my pickup was at 1 AM for the hour trip to the airport , I didn’t go to sleep at all last night and I have had one hour’s sleep on a couch in the VIP lounge which they gave me a pass to. Better than the hundreds of people sleeping on the floor in the ticketing area. Wonder what is up? Heavy rain all the way from San Juan to Guadalajara, so perhaps that has grounded planes.

CAVITY
About 85 species in North America make nests using cavities, birdhouses, gaps in structures or holes found in tree hollows, telephone poles, abandoned buildings and more.

Of the birds that use nest cavities, most woodpeckers (Picidae) including the northern flicker [Colaptes auratus] and red-naped sapsucker [Sphyrapicus nuchalis] tend to be the species that do the hard work of excavating many of the tree cavities. Fewer birds excavate their own holes in trees. But of those that do, the woodpeckers are by far the best known. The cavity using opportunists include bluebirds (Sialia), chickadees (Paridae), house sparrows, house wrens [Troglodytes aedon], nuthatches (Sitta), the bridled titmouse [Baeolophus wollweberi], violet-green swallows [Tachycineta thalassina], many parrots, and even some small owls such as the northern saw-whet owl [Aegolius acadicus]. Red-cockaded woodpeckers nest in cavities that can take years to construct in a living tree. They live in groups and will have as…

Drenched! July Rains….for RDP

These were definitely not taken this year as the second month into what should be the rainy season, we’ve only had one rain. Looks promising now, though. If it rains, I’ll add a current photo.

For Ragtag Daily Prompt: Drenched.
