“Happy Things” for SOCS, Aug 23, 2024

Since the prompt today is “hap,” I am rerunning a blog from eight years ago on the subject of happiness. Sadly, all of the people except for one in the fifth photo have since passed away, as have two of the sweet dogs in the sixth photo. It is a reminder to gather our happiness while we may!!!

Working in my art studio makes me happy, although I haven’t done so for almost a year.  I wonder why?  Too caught up in blogging, I fear.  I need to consider that question in the upcoming months.

DSC05397Trees make me happy.  Especially palm trees that provide shade but don’t block the view!!!  And create a beautiful view all their own.

DSCN2469I love entertaining friends and family at my house.DSC05291(Including those who won’t let me take their pictures as well as those who do.)

IMG_3606And, of course, blogging makes me very happy, so if you are reading this right now, you are one of the things that makes me happy, too!

For SOCS: Hap,

Nomad Art Exhibit, Ajijic for Cellpic Sunday, July 28, 2024

This Wild mural by Deedidit and unique collage painting were on view at Nomad Furniture Gallery in Ajijic. Wish I knew someone to give the duck/ducks to…but it’s too big for mailing anyway!!! (Sorry, I don’t know who did the Duckie Collage. Perhaps her, perhaps someone else.)

Artistry, For Whatsoever is Lovely, Week 24

Human artistry adds to nature’s.

For Whatsoever is Lovely

Painted Poetry

An ekphrastic poem is one that describes a work of art. Through the imaginative act of narrating and reflecting on the “action” of a painting or sculpture, the poet may amplify and expand its meaning. For this exhibition, however, an artist was given a poem and asked to create a painting that reflected the themes of the poem. (To my knowledge, there is no term for this reversal of the ekphrastic process.) My poem about forbidden love is given below and above is the painting it inspired. Painting by Leonardo de Dios Jerónimoque, poem by me.

The show was the  ExpoColoquio Internacional PreTextos del Solsticio held in Tabasco, Mexico, on June 20. I was honored to be a part of it. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend, but a friend took the photo of the painting that was based on my poem.  Below is its Spanish translation.

Let There Be Light! For CFFC

Okay, I couldn’t resist. My husband Bob Brown and I used to make lamps so they seem to be naturals to show for this prompt. To see more of our lamps, go HERE.

This is the only one that I still have. Bob did the wood and stone. I made the paper and formed the spiral shade.

Finally! My front door decorations almost restored!!! For Thursday Doors

The last major earthquake to be felt here on Lake Chapala (we were not at the epicenter) did in this arch over my door that leads onto the street from my front yard.  It had to be taken down and the painting around it done by master painter Jesus  Lopez Vega was lost as well. Here it is, rebuilt and restored.  He’s now painting my address with embellishment on the wall to the left and needs to paint the light cover. I’ll show more photos later. Wanted to show this for Thursday Doors, however, as I haven’t posted on it for some time.

HERE is a link that shows the door and arch before and during restoration.

Quetzalcoatl in process

This is today’s progress in this ongoing project. Body finished, scales going on, then the “rattles” and plumes to complete. I haven’t measured but I think it is about 15 meters long. Judy’s folly.

My Assemblage Pieces in the Hospitalito Exhibition (Show Ended Today)

These are all assemblage pieces I did in La Manzanilla from objects found on my walks on the beach. They were exhibited in the Hospitalito as part of the San Juan Cosala festival honoring its patron saint, St. John the Baptist. The show will be taken down today, Sunday, June 25.

The Hospitalito Inaugural Art Show Tomorrow!

Beach Virgin

Please drop by to see the Inaugural Show for the Hospitalito, just a short distance south of the San Juan Cosala plaza. The show, curated by Isidro Xilonsonchitl, will feature the work of 15 local artists.

Since the San Juan Bautista Festival will be going on, the street that leads to it is blocked off by rides and booths, so it might be best to park on the Carretera just before or after the traffic lights and walk the one block down to the show, or to approach the area from the lake side instead of the streets immediately around the plaza. The show will run for two weeks, the duration of the festival, but the Inauguration will be June 16 at 5 o’clock. In addition to the show, there will be the usual food, rides and plenty of booths to tempt your pocketbook!!!

Above and below are a few of the 26 wall pieces I’ll have in the show, as well as a few of the beach creches. They are all assemblages made from material picked up on beach walks during the time I’ve spent on various Mexican beaches.
