Merry Christmas, 2024!!!

My small writing group and spouses are coming for Christmas comida and white elephant gift exchange. Under each plate is a fortune and on each slip they draw for what their turn is to choose a gift is also a question to answer. Forgottenman made a list of fractured fortunes to distribute as well.  If you want to see them, I’ll print all of them after folks have already seen them.

Christmas below the Tropic of Cancer

Christmas below the Tropic of Cancer

Those venerable among us have long since passed away,
so we’ll make do with newer friends on this Christmas day.
We will light our candles and cook the spiral ham.
Eat the sugar cookies filled with nuts and jam.
We’ll enjoy the babble around the Christmas table
and squeeze another helping of pie in if we’re able.
The sounds and tastes of Christmas are fraught with memories—
with bubble lights upon the tree and packages to squeeze,
but the nice thing about memories is that we keep on making them,
for supplementing memories does not mean we’re forsaking them!

Prompt words for the day are candle, fraught, babble, venerable and sound.

Why I (Thought I) Slept in Today but Probably Didn’t

I won’t relate the horrors of Guadalajara traffic and why it took me ten and a half hours to get there, do my business, and get home again yesterday. That isn’t the reason I slept in until what I thought was ten thirty today. But, as I look at my alarm clock, I see it is still ten thirty even hours after I woke up and realize the battery must have gone dead, so perhaps I didn’t get as much sleep as I thought, since my computer says 10:34 and I’ve already located two more emergency presents and creative last-minute wrapping materials, posted a blog and chatted several times with Yolanda, so I have no idea how long I slept last night.  I do know that I wrapped gifts for Yolanda and Pasiano’s families until 4:49 a.m. I also put together two framed photo collages for two of their gifts and although I bought Xmas wrap, discovered I had no ribbon, so I engineered  ribbons by cutting up old cloth belts and used egg carton flowers for bows.  I used photos for tags so non-readers could find their own gifts. Where there is a will, there’s a way.  Some of my late-night inventions: (If you are viewing from Facebook, click on the URL or you won’t see all the photos.  Then click on first photo to enlarge all photos and view as slide show.)

Oddball Xmas: Cee’s Oddball Challenge

Oddball Xmas

IMG_0664

You saw part of this unusual choice of costume in my Xmas post, but I saved the  photo of the entire ensemble for Cee’s Oddball Challenge.  If this doesn’t qualify, I don’t know what will! My brother-in-law bought the suit for a joke.  We added the glasses, cap and antlers. I think you’ll agree that he qualifies as a good sport!!!  I’m wondering what he will come up with for New Years!!!
