Squatter, For FOTD, Aug 4, 2024

This little Echeveria is growing out of a hole in the side of a large flowerpot that sits on the terrace beside my pool.  I must admit that I stuck it into that hole when it first opened up, but it has survived and grown larger over the past year.

You may think this interesting bloom is coming from the Hen and Chicks plant in the third photo, but actually it is coming from the frilled variety in the fourth picture. Its scientific name is Echeveria Shaviana E. Walther, commonly known as the Mexican Hen and Chicks.

Echeveria Crimson Tide, Jan 12, 2024

Even though Cee is taking a break, there is no rest for the wicked so it has been decreed that I have to keep posting a flower a day until she comes back… and then continue for forever!!! This Echeveria Crimson Tide, although not a flower, is as pretty as one and the bonus is that it actually is flowering!

Sam wondered about the photo I posted today.  I think he feared that it was drying out as it appeared to be tan rather than green.  Here are three more photos of it in sunlight. It is a pale green.  And the container is the broken-off-at-the-waist sculpture that the kitties broke so I am using the bottom part of it as a planter.  There were two–female and male–and they knocked them both off their perches at the front of my house.

Here are the planters.

I think the echeverias are every bit as pretty as flowers and half the bother, so here are a couple I’m sharing!

Per your request, here are images of the entire Echeveria plant with the bloom spike. Actually, there are two blooming echeverias shown. One is 6 inches across, the other 7 inches. To see a closeup of the bloom, go HERE.

These flower-like succulents are more commonly known as Mexican Hen and Chicks. I love them and have them in most of my planters.
