Marigolds: FOTD Oct 27, 2023

Oops. Late today. I have an excuse!!!  Tell you about it later. Marigolds are the traditional flower for Day of the Dead in Mexico. All along the road between Ajijic and San Juan there are roadside vendors, with trucks filled with them in front of the pantheons (graveyards.) The trail of petals from the flowers in front of my altar to the front door is a road inviting spirits of loved ones to visit but then to depart again. Thus it leads both up to the altar and afterwards, back out through the front door. My house has had a number of visits by spirits over the past 22 years. If you check back through my blogs, you’ll hear their stories.

Marigolds: Flower of the Day, Dec 14, 2020

The 12 day festival for the Virgin of Guadalupe is finally over. There were LOUD fireworks every day and night, but on the last two nights they went off constantly all night long. Yesterday, only the floral tributes remained. In Mexico, that usually calls for marigolds, and in the churches, roses, as they play a vital role in the story of the appearance of the Virgin.

Mixed Bed: Flower of the Day, July 5, 2016

Marigolds, lobelia and cockscomb fill in around weathered wood in my friend Patty’s back yard. Thanks to a big wind that blew down her back fence, patio and part of her roof, her gorgeous yard is fully viewable from the major street that runs by the back of her house.

Hanging Gardens!
A nursery in Ajijic hung marigolds from a massive tree at its entrance for Dia de los Muertos.  Stunning!
