Marriage of Mind

Marriage of Mind

You weave between the spaces that the world has left—
The filler to my emptiness, the warp to all my weft.
I’m made stronger by your presence. You always have my back—
solving all my puzzles and lessening the flak
of the world’s abuses in between its pleasures.
You share its grief just as you’ve helped me celebrate its treasures.
We weave a pretty story, devoid of plan or theme.
We play the game together without joining any team.
Our story is unwritten. It’s not epic or historical.
The union that I talk about is merely metaphorical.

Prompt words today are team, weft, flak, historical and abuse.

Happy Hour

Happy Hour

Let’s get together to workshop our souls,
then toss our past regrets back in their bowls.

Though life’s a lottery, full of calamity,
we are the agents of all of its amity.

Choices we make determine our ends.
Fate’s only responsible for its trick bends.

You bring the biscuits and I’ll provide wine.
We’ll discuss life as we sip and we dine.

No better remedy for life’s aversions
than hors d’oeuvres and drinks to provide our diversions.

Prompt for today are workshop, lottery, biscuit, calamity and agent.

Old Friends

Old Friends

Like a well-worn garment rubbed thin by life,
I’m becoming translucent,
my secrets still partially obscured,
lest you be inundated with the whole of me.

Friends of long duration,
we see each other
as through a light fog,
that scathing inflexibility of youth
loosened in us,
as I grant you the foibles
I hope you grant in me.

Prompt words today are translucent, inundate, flexibility, scathe.

Truth Serum

Truth Serum

I’d like to form a splinter group of all the friends I know
to reconnoiter memories and then to tell and show.
Candidness, of course, would be most elemental—
telling truth and all the truth merely instrumental
in getting to the crux of things, in solving all the puzzles.
Life’s not got at best with blinders and with muzzles.

Our lives are rivers that we’d float together, in snug boats
comprised of past anecdotes from sagas to mere quotes.
Who hasn’t lived a movie if they’ve lived a life at all?
If only we had the courage, trust and gall
to reveal our true life story—both its triumph and its shame
and to share it with each other with no censorship or blame.

The prompt words today are river, instrumental, memories and splinter.
