Point of View for The Sunday Whirl Wordle 560

With travel friends in Timor

Point of View

It was a rainy night in March under a Timor moon.
We hunched in cruel misery beneath a wild monsoon.
Around one flickering candle, under a canopy
that formed a refuge for us, strung up from tree to tree.

Travelers all, and young and broke, we stalked a narrow line
creating our own magic with mushrooms, weed and wine,
working our way around the world on impulse and on grit.
Misfortune? Fortune in disguise when we accepted it.

Thus sighs transformed to laughter when shared with kindred mind,
following adventure’s road wherever it might wind.
A sudden thud behind us? Some flinched but others spun
around to see what new adventure came to swell the fun.

Weekend Warriors: Wordle 524

Weekend Warriors

As they mark off  the no man’s land with flags and chalk,
they warn their young brother he’d better not balk.
Then, battle lines drawn, my young monsters are off.

They huzzah and bellow and threaten and scoff.

As side one counts the time off,  twos drop to their knees
behind bushes and tables and boulders and trees.
Then, a hundred count reached, the enemy searches
the ditches and culverts and elm tees and birches.

Crows rise from the trees to caw and to hover,
betraying  those hidden and blowing their cover.
They rise then from where they’ve been crouching or sitting,
to begin their maneuvers of feinting and flitting.

Hiders still in hiding feel a hand on the nape
of their necks, that touch foiling their hope of escape.
Prisoners are taken and armies change places.
Hunted become hunters, continuing chases.

Over and over, this course is repeated.
Loser becomes winner but then is defeated.
Until one-by-one, they all are called home,
and the battleground’s empty below the night dome.

Star after star replaces the ranks
of small weekend soldiers and make-believe tanks.
They fall under covers, their moms tuck them in,
the dreams of their conquests now set to begin.

Prompt words today are battle, drop, sit, young, cover, monster, chase, table, count, times, zone and flags.

Sunday Haven

Sunday Haven

On Sunday mornings in her pew her countenance was numinous,
her eyes benign, her serene smile was nothing short of luminous,
but by that evening, she had shifted to a mood bituminous.

Dark skies, in short. Her mood and look becoming less than cheery
as she descended into attitudes more dark and dreary—
cantankerous and woebegone, martyred,  doleful, weary.

As luck would have it, those of us that she deigned to call friend
suffered through each dark spot, just praying for its end,
waiting for the skies to clear and for her mood to mend.

And sure enough, after a week of musings mired in dolor,
clouds parted and her mental weather slowly crept toward solar,
her mood-swings forming textbook illustrations of bipolar!

If only we could find a way to keep her on her perch
balanced there with hymnal on her pew of gleaming birch,
for the only time we’ve respite is the time she is in Church!

Prompt words today are hug, luck, cheery and luminous.
